Choosing Your Narrative

Perspective is something that gives us the power to dictate how our narrative looks. It’s a gift that we sometimes take for granted and we don’t understand the magnitude of power that a harmonious perspective can bring into our lives. In the simplest form, perspective metaphorically looks like a path that forks off in many different directions. You then hold the power and free will to decide which perspective you are going to go with in life.

There are many factors that contribute to which perspective that we are going to choose in life. Subconsciously we might be choosing the perspective that has been engrained into us through our upbringing, family environments and societal norms. As we begin to cultivate our own journey and path in life, it is our responsibility to take note of our unique perspectives and make sure it is aligning with where we see ourselves.

I previously had perspectives based in lack and fear based narratives due to circumstances that occurred in my teenage years. My perspective was that if you stand out or are different, you will feel pain and become ostracized. So my perspective was to stay small and play it safe. That path and perspective only inflicted more pain on me. It caused to me kill off any decision that truly aligned with my heart. I allowed what was external in my life to dictate what decisions I made.

It is extremely difficult to take the time to get real with yourself and to understand what your purpose is. I look back and see glimpses of moments when I went along with what made my heart sing, even though everyone around me didn’t agree. Those were the moments where I truly felt alive and aligned. Now that years have come and gone, I find myself repeating this pattern. I find myself making decisions that keep me small and empty. Its’ funny how time can pass, but in the blink of an eye we can get transported just by the mere experience of an emotion. I owe it to myself to heal these lingering wounds and so do you.

Take the leap of faith, fall down a couple of times and create something magnificent on the way up. This is your reminder that you have what it takes.

In Love & Light,

Valerie
