Comparison
As humans, our brains are hardwired to look at those around us and continuously find ways to compete and become better. We compare every detail of our lives because we were raised in a competitive and overreaching culture. Nothing is ever enough, we keep going and thinking the next point is when we will reach fulfillment.
I feel as if we are so quick to put others on a pedestal in hopes that we can look at ourselves in that same regard one day. I fully support celebrating those around us, but we shouldn’t put ourselves down in the process. This is why detachment is so important.
As my journey has progressed, detachment has been a huge catalyst to help me move forward and away from anything that has hindered me. As I have practiced detachment and focused more on the bigger picture, the less I compare and obsess over aspects that have no place in my life. If you are detached from expectations, comparison has no place to call home in your life.
If I could explain detachment in the easiest way, it’s about the awareness of our thoughts and emotions through pure observation, void of judgement and expectations. It is completely normal for lower vibrational thoughts and emotions to arise in situations. Detachment happens when we see those thoughts and emotions pop up, and then we remind ourselves that it’s just an emotion or thought. You take the power away from those things and remind yourself that it’s nothing to fear or worry about. Just let those thoughts and emotions pass by. You will save yourself so much stress and worry by detaching.
As you begin to step back from letting those things control you, it becomes easier to practice detachment. It’s just like any other skill, you have to be diligent and put in the work to create change. Life really does become brighter and more colorful when you practice detachment. You allow everything to flow in your life and you bring more gratitude towards the ups and downs. You also begin to see the beauty in life and how amazing it is that everyone gets the chance to live out their own unique paths.
